Pretty much the role of a subordinating conjunction is used when you're making a concession, reason, condition, or a comparison for the main clause:)
So for example look at the sentence you're being provided....
"The charity needs more money so that it can increase its support for the homeless."
Now, the subordinating conjunction here is 'so that' 
Main clause is that 'charity needs money'
Why? Because...........
