the idea is break up the shape into triangles where you can figure out the base and the height. then find the area of each triangle (or rectangle if you can make those)
then add up all of the areas.

the height will be the distance from that base "up to" the vertex at point B
(i.e. the distance from B "straight" across to the base AC)
