OpenStudy (board_man):

Write the equation of an ellipse with vertices at (7, 0) and (-7, 0) and co-vertices at (0, 1) and (0, -1).

OpenStudy (prathamesh_m):

since u know the vertices u know the value of 'a'.(the vertices of an ellipse are (-a,0) and (a,0)) using the co-vertices u can find the eccentricity. the co-vertices are (-ae,0) and (ae,0). then using the values of a and e u can find b using the equation: \[e=\sqrt{1-\frac{ b ^{2} }{ a ^{2} }}\]

OpenStudy (board_man):

okay. thanks!
