can someone give me some advice of my situation in my math class
What situation?
okay , so im taking calculus 2 right now and the exam that i took last Thursday brought me down to low letter grade of d . so right now i feel desperate that i might do bad over the next 7 weeks of class.. so im not sure if i should drop the class or should i continue ...
Quite the dilemma. It's a bit out of my reach though... I'll let someone else answer who knows more. Hope you get it figured out!
yeah , idk what to do honestly ..
How many assignments have you taken so far? did the course just start?
dont bail on me now @marcelie we gotta struggle through this together
The W on the transcript might be better then a C or D. Your call entirely though.
lol yesh :(
yea.. i passed my calc 1 with a c which i regret it bc as a math major itll look horrible when i apply ..
im just desperate bc this stuff is tough and it goes rapidly
Also if not finishing Calc 2 sets you back from pursuing your degree maybe you should stick with it.
yes , now that i think about it i cant drop bc i already registered for calc 3 in the fall and ill be getting my degree this spring
Does your professor allow you to make up tests?
noo :( hes very challenging and his tests are tough since he doesn't give us study guides which it makes it harder for me
that sucks :/ no extra credit I assume?
no :(
A major part of calc2 involves applications of calculus like finding arc lengths, surface areas etc. You will do great in calc2 if you understand calc1. My suggestion for you is not to drop calc2. Just review calc1 concepts when necessary and try to spend your free time on doing calc1 problems till you feel confident. Good luck !
You will have mastered calc1 by the time you answer below two questions for any familiar function : 1) slope of tangent line of the the graph of f(x) at a given x value. 2) area between two curves over a given interval of x values
@marcelie 1. Are you past the drop period? 2. How many exams are there left including the final? 3. did you meet with your prof to discuss your standing in the class?
well i think the drop date with out a w was last week .. and there are like 4 exams left and i havent met with him yet since i had an A since ive been acing my quizzes and this exam brought me down to d and im scared that i might fail for the upcomming exams
best to review the exam in question and see what areas you lack, and patch up on that when you can. Have some buddies along for the ride.

Make sure you talk to your professor and let him know you're concerned and care about your grade in the class. Even if he cant help you, make sure he knows your name. If you have a TA make sure you do the same. Students tend to do better when the professor see's their name on paper and recognizes them as someone who really cares about the class.
Another tip is that on average 50-60% of your test questions should be 'elementary'. That is to say stuff that every student ought to understand and get correct more often than not. So get those ones right and get them out of the way fast, but don't devote all your time to those. Then you'll get 25-30% moderate difficulty, where you will need to understand more complex methods, scenarios and tricks, and the remaining 10-15% of trickier ones which you shouldn't be too ashamed not to be able to tackle. (This applies to final exams generally, topic tests can be a bit more condensed in its scope where the weighting by difficulty might be more 45-40-15 instead). If you can categorise questions into broad difficulty levels, by the end of semester, aim to be able to do most of your mediums and a couple of the hard ones. Then the test won't look so daunting. Of course immediate support, approach tutor or coordinator.
thanks ill try that :)
