I'd say yes. Quadratic formula always works and the chance of making an error is somewhat less compared to completing the square.

completing the square is simpler for  quadratics with  small coefficients   
like  x^2 + x - 7 = 0  but gets more complicated  with higher coefficients so an balance  i agree with ganeshie
