This is how you create a prism. Start with two congruent polygons. They will be the bases of the prism. Place one polygon on top of the other one with the corresponding vertices perfectly lined up. That means that if you look at the polygons from above, you'd think there is only one polygon. Now start lifting one of the polygons, and lift a distance and move it a long a straight line until you stop. All the positions that the edges of the top polygon moved through produce the sides of the prism.
