what are causes of the holocaust

OpenStudy (aloisichibode):

What specific answers are you looking for? There are many causes for the holocaust, but it would be easier to narrow it down to just a few main ones.

OpenStudy (austinl):

As a Jew I think this is a very complicated question that has an even more complicated answer. I suppose the short version goes back to the occupations that were available to the majority of the Jewish people in Europe starting generations before the holocaust. Because Jews were not Christians they were not permitted to practice trades even a meager as baking bread. Because of this many of them turned to businesses such as money lending to feed their families. This as you imagine did not help. Another major problem was the split in the religion and the lack of mutual understanding. In Shakespeare's times they were not even allowed to live in England until much later will Oliver Cromwell. All throughout Europe the Jewish people have always been persecuted. It was not un-normal to hate someone just for being Jewish. Make no mistake, Europe and the US refused to take many Jewish immigrants when offered by Hitler. IBM an American company made the counters the Nazis used in the holocaust. So you have all of this Anti-Semitism built up and after WW2 Germany was a disaster. Hitler who was a monster used this to make the Jews out to be the problem. From here it gets more complicated because even before this Stalin was at working killing millions of people, including Soviet Jews. There is a really good book you should read called "Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin". This is one of those books that will knock the wind out of you when it talks about what really happened and just how bad, and how long the holocaust really was. https://www.amazon.com/Bloodlands-Europe-Between-Hitler-Stalin/dp/0465031471
