Isosceles trapezoid ABCD is constructed with line ZX drawn through its center. If the isosceles trapezoid is dilated using a scale factor of one over three and a line is drawn through the center of the new dilated figure, what relationship will the new line have with line ZX? Explain your reasoning using complete sentences.

OpenStudy (redstonemak3r):

So from constantly just Assuming that it's a continuous line, it would stay the same. But if it's a line segment then it would also dilate with the figure but by what scale factor?

OpenStudy (superwholock221):

1/3

OpenStudy (redstonemak3r):

yes perfect Essentially, what happens is that the line forms a new polygon, which should still be similar to the new polygon formed with the new (dilated) trapezoid, and should be just as proportional. ^^

OpenStudy (superwholock221):

ohh ok thanks again

OpenStudy (redstonemak3r):

np

OpenStudy (redstonemak3r):

Just name the line SEGMENT ZX and you're good to go
