What are YOUR suggestions for OpenStudy?
Over the two years I have been on Openstudy, I have suggested many good and bad ideas for OpenStudy. Many other users have given their opinions on how to improve OpenStudy, but what are YOUR ideas?
An updated reporting system?
A message limit? Someone decides to spam the chat rooms, and we all know this isn't fun. How about a 5 quick Message Limit? This means that a user can only send 5 messages quickly, and then they are forced to wait 10 seconds to chat again. This can help when no moderators are around.
There is a chat throttle, it just takes a couple of chats within 0.001 seconds of eachother being sent x'D
A summary of the suggestion @joel_the_boss gave: An email that is sent to a user who has been inactive for 2 months saying that OpenStudy misses you!
My suggestion for OpenStudy: Improve the moderator tools.
I agree with chat room suggestion :) @sammixboo
In what way, @TheSmartOne? What are your suggestions to improve the moderator tools?
My whole time being os, I've seen all your suggestions and designs of different ideas on how os can get better @sammixboo I thought they were all good ideas, but I've never seen anything happen from these ideas. I cri.. rip
Well, we did have the menu option come on, but I am not sure if that came from my suggestion or not. http://prntscr.com/bn0m0a It seems like OpenStudy is being more open to suggestions, now that they are asking.
old screenshot :o
I agree with @TheSmartOne @sammixboo as well and I've actually included those suggestions in the recent survey. The Notification box needs to be fixed or improved. Every time, all of my notifications disappear when I hit the refresh button on the current tab, it is frustrating sometimes because I couldn't see who've been reported for bad conduct when it happens. I have a suggestion for users statuses, the current status display is somewhat deceptive. Some users thought you're online when you're actually away or busy. We could amend that by adding a 'clock' to the system. After let's say, give it 5 mins of you being away, your status will automatically change to away. Better still, add a drop-down list where you can choose whichever status you want manually, or both automatic and manual would be magnificent.
Very old. Let me show you something else I suggested a long time ago. Through PM, of course. and @.Sam. that has always been a good suggestion. I would love for that to happen
I love all of the suggestions @sammixboo and @.Sam. came up with and I certainly hope somehow they get implemented. One thing I noticed was the new reporting system, how it resembles Brainly's report box. You are given options to choose from. I feel as though this is a good and bad thing. Good, because maybe it targets certain obscenities for the mods to have a easier time tracking, but also bad because I feel as though it'd give the mod's an outlet to ignore what gets reported in various area's and whatever is important that gets reported won't be looked at in time. Maybe I'm having compulsion disorder over it, but thats just my thought. Another idea that I have (even though its really small) is when you go to check notifications (on a computer) and your on your homepage (as I commonly am) each notification opens a separate tab and for some reason it drives me crazy because its another thing to keep track of. Another compulsion thought? OKey. I know this has been suggested before (and even though the qualified helper program is off atm) it'd be so nice if we could have QH's for each subject because lemme be real. I'm the worst human being when it comes to math and I will literally give you an F and a G and an H in your Calculus class if I help you. But I can most definitely give you an A and possibly even extra points in English and Writing. Soooooo.............I could be a QH in English. ^.^ (that is if the QH program comes back )
I had no idea the Brainly reporting system was like that. That was a suggestion I made a year and a half back. Good to know that this can be a great possibility!
Make it mandatory for all users to verify their mobile numbers. For one particular mobile number, there can be only one account. This will prevent usage of multiple accounts by users.
My Suggestion :- There should be emoticons(or smileys). It would be great if admins add it !
Sammi - If I were to describe what new features moderators need and what flaws the old ones have and how they can be improved, trolls can take advantage of such information and spam more efficiently. :P Atsie - On Brainly when you report using those options, moderators do not ignore any reports. But given the way how reporting works here, any report can be ignored (no matter what the dialog box for reporting looks like). In addition, it takes extra work on a moderator here to moderate than a moderator on Brainly to moderate.
Add a few more shapes and features to the drawing tool.
I agree with Photon. We shouldn't have to rely on other's extensions to do that.
@Atsie you're always writing a novel ._. *-*
@SamsungFanBoy Its unfortunate that I'm not a two sentence person. ;)
Why do u guys arguee about what new to do? nothing of what u isted will ever be done. u all just waste times and delete my comments. I repeat mod tools will never become better from their upgrade.
Your negative attitude can be repulsive sometimes. Try to look at the positive! :) Preetha's looking to get feedback as well as many of the mods and ambi's to make the site better. If it takes a while to coordinate out what happens, then so be it. We have a better character when we have patience.
@alexandervonhumboldt2 \(\ Why\ do\ u\ guys\ arguee\ about\ what\ new\ to\ do?\ nothing\ of\ what\ u\ isted\ will\ ever\ be\ done.\\ u\ all\ just\ waste\ times\)\(\ -alxandervonhomo2\) I'm going to say this as politely as possible: \(\tiny\bcancel{GROW\ \ UP}\) \(OPEN\ YOUR\ EYES\) Brainly \(\cancel{bought}\) aquired OpenStudy. That means that we will have \(\cancel{more}\) developers. Which in turn means that OpenStudy's platform will change, and drastically. OpenStudy's moderating system is not very good, and that's an understatement. Moderators get reports in their notifications, they don't have much moderating tools, chat reports are chaos, and seeing the warning and deletion history of a user is a very lengthy process. There are many other things on OpenStudy that need to be improved but never were because OpenStudy \(\cancel{was\ poor}\) lacked funding. But now that we have Brainly's \(\cancel{money}\) support we actually have a chance for these suggestions to be implemented. So don't think that nothing will ever happen. \(\ "I\ repeat\ \ mod\ tools\ will\ never\ become\ better\ from\ their\ upgrade."\) \(\ -alexandervonhomo2\) Brainly might have acquired OpenStudy, but the 13+ rules still exists. Remember that.
Design improvement: Every first time people come in OS Feedback they should see a notice telling them what is considered spam in OpenStudy Feedback. A similar thing can be put in other sections. New Feature: There should be a button in each section that says "View all {subject} Tutorials" so users can see tutorials for that particular subject. Design improvement: There should be a way to extend the chats to make it bigger. Improvement of an existing feature: Decimal medals. Like if two people helped then you could give half a medal to those people. Heh? Actually, just forget about this idea. It's kind of lame. New Feature: Every times someone asks a question, one dollar will be given to ConfluxEpic.
I like the last suggestion. @confluxepic
I like your last one :)
Thanks Sammi and Wit. :)
Anyways, a tutorial forum would be nice. Same with a FaQ forum

How about a separate notification system for reports? For moderators, of course. Also, when reporting things in the chat, if the mod clicks on the report in their notification system it should automatically open up the chat is was reported in, then automatically scroll up to the message, and highlight it. This makes things easier, because it can pinpoint exactly where the message is. If you are questioning how this will work with deleted messages, moderators should have the ability to see deleted messages IN THE CHATS. Thy should be faded out, but still able to read, so they know the message was deleted.
When reporting messages in your Private Message, it should automatically send some information from the message, such as the time, date, user it was sent by, and the actual message. This can make it to where false statements aren't took under consideration. I know this happens frequently. Users say another user is taunting them in their Private Messages, but they have to proof to show them doing so. It's very difficult. Moderators have the ability to close questions, delete question, delete chats, IP check, kick, warn, and suspend, but are they able to easily reinstate a user? How about when one user is suspended, the 'Reinstate' button appears on their pop-up profile? if that doesn't happen, then on their pop-up profile, moderators should be able to see if a user was suspended, or recently warned.
How about the ability for moderators to change one's picture to the Default Owl Picture? Sometimes, users have an inappropriate picture up, and they refuse to change it. This gives moderators the ability to remove these inappropriate profile pictures themselves.
the block feature can be improved i don't use it tho;) but its required
In what way? Like to not be able to the user you blocked in the chats, correct?
yeah
it will be great if we could see our smart score progress like "you need xyz points to get to 46SS" :)) the pm system should also be improved a bit cuz its very difficult to find old pms
I guess that can be improved. It can be helpful :) And yes, I remember that first suggestion you provided. A percentage, or a progress bar on your profile. Always been a thing most users want
Sometimes these suggestions can be a bit difficult to put into the site. That's something we all need to take under consideration
A separate notification for reports would be great and the mods can see highlighted reports in the chats but in a different page and not in the chats. The faded messages that were deleted may be a good addition as well.
they should make a short intro video tutorial on how helpful openstudy can be they can show that people can get help, give help, talk with study-buddies and get stuff from emporium like the recommendation letter which can be useful this will not only help os but also the users
daily top helper rankings hm? this might help attract users and this way more users will get help
an openstudy android app is much required!!
There is an app for Apple devices, and an Android one was supposed to come out over a year ago.
@sammixboo Those are some really good suggestions btw, also there should be an indication of the time suspended for a user. For users with inappropriate profile pictures and biography, just add a delete button for the mods
what about a tool with which we can edit our previous posts? it will save time and it will be nice
The ability to edit comments, I see.
the topic "maths" is splitted into many subgroups which can be merged into one this might help in some way..idk
Just an idea but contests and such for owl bucks (seriously what are they used for) or something. Like on the "elective" type subjects. Music, art, etc.
It'll bring in a competitive crowd and it might be interesting to see and compete with others work in subjects like that.
i think, when i wanna open some of the features, don't switch it to new tab (like open my profile).. if i open many tabs in that moment for my school task, it will be so confusing 'cause too many tabs in a window..
@A_Burning_Masquerade we already had OwlBuck giveaways. They are used for getting help from a qualified helper in Math and Chemistry. And now that Brainly bought OpenStudy, we aren't selling OwlBucks anymore. :)
http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5377b7d5e4b0ba022d36af38 Zero of these ideas have been realized :c
4 all the people that do not want to spend money they should put ads u can watch for free owl bucks probably 2 a day
Hello rayep, as I said earlier, we aren't selling OwlBucks anymore. Also, the purpose of OwlBucks was to help generage more money for OpenStudy to run, but now that Brainly and OpenStudy are together, we don't need to sell OwlBucks to make money. :)
a logout of all sessions thing
That's a lie. @thomaster A few of those "ideas" have been "realized."
has anything u suggested been implemented into the site?
Patience @umerlodhi
I think there are some of them have been implemented, not sure, I've gone inactive yesteryear so I can't tell exactly.
Not really @umerlodhi They implemented the captcha thing and nothing useful in the past 2 years as far as ik
Smh whats the point of this section then? to say hbd?
Lol xd
It would be nice perhaps if there was a feature which allowed people to search for questions which have been asked previously in a particular subject (e.g. using a keyword). It's amazing how similar questions on the same topics can come up over and over again! I think this would be especially helpful for people to be able to look back at the tutorials which certain users have done in each subject, rather than them just being lost forever!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said, @Ciarán95 said.
Or she
Bruh, nice username o-o
Although I kind of agree with him. Wouldn't they just go back and search for the answer only, not looking at what the user stated to make that answer true?

Yw universe xD
http://prntscr.com/bqys13 Been meaning to update this, ill get around to it eventually... x'D http://prntscr.com/bqyscd
theres also 3 search modes :P
to actually search by keywords xD
I like the Chat Room idea.
Moderators should be able to re-open questions.
That's a good suggestion conflux
Thanks Sam. :)
