The following table shows the data of a random sample of fish collected from and later released into a lake: Type of Fish Bass Catfish Warmouth Number of fish 60 70 20 How many bass are estimated to be present if a random sample of 1,500 fish is collected from the lake? 130 600 750 900

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

estimated number of bass = [(# of recorded bass)/(previous total)]*(new total)

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

what do you mean by previous total and new total????

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

in the first sample, the total is 60+70+20 = 150. I'm referring to this as the "previous total" In the next sample, the total jumps to 1500 which I call the "new total"

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

ok got it so 60/150 times 1,500
