OpenStudy (cindyg88):

The story is called New Direction by Maya Angelou I have to do a short story analysis paper

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

And do you know if you have to analyze it as in see the literary elements that the short story uses or analyze as in explaining your interpretation of the story, or in other words, what you think the story means, etc... Do you have maybe any specific direction?

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

I have analysis is in the literary elements that the story uses

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

i dont have any specific direction

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Okay, so do you remember the literary elements you have learned in class? Here's a list of literary elements: http://classroom.nbisd.org/users/0534/docs/litelements.pdf Use that to find what type of literary elements the story uses. A lot of these elements are rather vague, so you -might- need to specify what kind of plot or theme or symbolism, etc... the story has. So instead of saying, "the story has a plot," you can say, "The story has a complex plot where the author uses the technique of flash forwarding in the beginning of each chapter, making the reader feel like they're solving a puzzle." Sometimes when I need to analyze something, it helps me to either read or write a summary of the story, making sure I remember everything that happened and looking for themes and symbolism. Then, I try to write only one sentence on what the story is about. For example, one might say "Maya Angelou's 'New Directions' is about a woman who made a 'new path' for herself by starting a store despite all her hardships." :)

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

ok i will try it that why

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

i will try it that way

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

i dont know how to tell what are the specific details that go in my paper

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Examples/excerpts from the story that prove your point. What do you have so far?

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

I cant send you a draft in an email and you can tell me what i need to do or if i have to redo it from start

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

You actually on't need to send it through E-Mail, you can attach it here using the 'attach file' button. :P

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

ok i will that

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

this is it

OpenStudy (cindyg88):

this what they are asking for
