It is a simple sailboat. It seems to work entirely based on vector addition of wind angle and the sail angle. Just wanted to share this as I study the math/physics behind this little marvel :)
i remember it from a problem in 18.02... its constructed such that you can go in any direction just using the sails, including against the direction of the wind!!
i think the central idea that allows this is the 'keel' which prevents the ship from moving in any direction except along the length axis

Yeah, that keel in the water kills all the force of the wind except the component along its direction. Keel is really the key part of a sail boat. I'm gonna try that problem...
