OpenStudy (openst):

how do you graph y=-3tan(1/2x)

OpenStudy (sepeario):

do you know the general shape of a tangent graph?

OpenStudy (sepeario):

basically you need to know the shape, the intercepts and the asymptotes of the graph.

OpenStudy (pythagoras123):

y=a tan (bx) where a is the vertical stretch and b is the frequency of the graph. Period of the graph is 180/b.

OpenStudy (pythagoras123):

tangent graphs are always stretched to infinity, hence you can ignore the extent of the stretch. Note that the negative sign in -3tan(1/2x) denotes that the graph is inverted. (i.e. parts above the x axis will reflect below the x axis, and vice versa.)
