OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

What is the coefficient of the variable in the expression 6 − 4x − 8 + 2? (3 points) A. 6 B. 2 C. −4 D. −8

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

ABCD

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Do you know what coefficients are?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

sadly no :/

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Terms are made up of coefficients and variables. Coefficients may be +/-, fractions, decimals, whole numbers, etc. In equations the coefficient is often shown as a letter such as ax + by + 3. Variables are the letters that are with the coefficient. So for example, if you have 3x, 3 would be the coefficient of the variable x. Comparing it to your problem, which do you think the coefficient of the variable is?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

oh so the coefficient is x for my problem

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Look at this: No. x is a variable. Coeficient is what is part of the variable. https://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/definitions.html

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

ooh thx for clearing that up so 4 is the coeficient and the variable is X

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

so -4 would be the answer correct?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes you got it

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

Thx for the help :D

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

yup
