Suppose interest rate is x% per year. So after 3 years, we get 3x% But he'll pay borrowed money+interested money, so total interest rate after 3 years will be 100%+3x%=(100+3x)% therefore,we get (100+3x)% * 4000=5920

\[\large \bf \frac{100+3x}{100} \times 4000=5920\] \[\large \bf (100+3x) \times 40=5920\] \[\large \bf 100+3x=148\] \[\large \bf 3x=48\] \[\large \bf x=16\]
