OpenStudy (cristygoode):

What is the common difference or common ratio of the sequence 3, 7, 11, 15, ...?

MARC (marc_d):

The common difference is the difference between two numbers in an arithmetic sequence. The common ratio is the ratio between two numbers in a geometric sequence.

MARC (marc_d):

formula to find the common difference is\[d=T_2-T_1\]

MARC (marc_d):

and for common ratio\[r=\frac{ T_2 }{ T_1 }\]

MARC (marc_d):

Let the sequence be 3,7,11,15..as\[T_1,T_2,T_3,T_4,..\]

MARC (marc_d):

if the common ratio are equal, therefore,it is a geometric sequence.. if the common difference are equal,it is a arithmetric sequence..

MARC (marc_d):

and vice-versa..
