Help with word problem

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

A car dealer got a shipment of cars. 1/2 are black The rest have equal numbers of blue, silver, and white cars. During the next month, 70% black sold, 80% blue sold, 30% silver sold, and 40% white sold What percent was sold.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

I understand I have 1/2(.70) + the other 3 cars

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

But what # do I multiply the percents by for the rest of them?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

First find the fraction that are each colour: 0.5 are black The rest (remaining 0.5) have equal numbers of blue, silver, and white cars - so divide it into three blue = silver = white = 0.5/3 Now you can just multiply the given sold % by the fraction for each colour.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

So are you saying .5/3 (.80) + .5/3 (.30) + .5/3 (.40). ?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I think you forgot black, but yes.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Thanks yea I just meant for the rest
