OpenStudy (yumyum247):

@jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (yumyum247):

halp me plzzzzzzzz

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you have so far? were you able to get started?

OpenStudy (yumyum247):

am struggling to do the graph with an equation...aawwnnn

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Let's break it down piece by piece. let's make x = time in minutes and y = distance from home Also, we'll assume she starts at home so that means y = 0 when x = 0. She starts at the point (0,0) The first part says that ` She rides on a flat road at a constant rate of 0.4km/minute for 5 minutes` so what that part means is the line will go through (0,0) and have a slope of 0.4. This line will span from x = 0 to x = 5 to represent the fact that she is traveling this speed for 5 minutes

OpenStudy (yumyum247):

OK

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

|dw:1468363616247:dw|

OpenStudy (yumyum247):

OK PAPA

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The 2 comes from the fact that 5*0.4 = 2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

` She then rides up a hill at a rate of 0.3km/minute for 3 minutes.` what would this look like?

OpenStudy (yumyum247):

SO basically they have given us the slope and x value, we can find the y value...or distance ok

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes if she traveled 0.4 km/min for 5 min, then she traveled 5*0.4 = 2 km x = 5 y = 2 giving the point (5,2)
