please help!!!!! 2. What is the surface area of the pyramid?http://www.intervisualtechnology.us/data/1/9045/apply_11_3.png

OpenStudy (sweetheart):

1. Perimeter = 4s Perimeter = 4(5) Perimeter=20 L.A=1/2 p l L.A=1/2(20)(6) L.A=120 divide by ½ L.A = 60 2. S.A = L.A +B S.A = 1/2pl +1/2p S.A = ½(20)(6) +1/2(20) S.A = ½(120)+ ½(20) S.A = 60+10 = 70 i got 70 but my teacher said it is wrong. can someone tell me how to fix it.

@jim_thompson5910 @TheSmartOne @mathmate please help will medal u

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Surface area is basically finding the area of each face and adding it up. There are 5 bases. One base is a square with side 5 m. The other four sides are triangles and have a base of 5 m and a height of 6 m. Remember the formula for finding area of a triangle is 1/2 * base * height and for a square it is side * side

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

@sweetheart you calculated the lateral sides correctly but you made an error calculating the area of the base

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

as @TheSmartOne states: `One base is a square with side 5 m` area of square = (length of side)*(length of side)

OpenStudy (sweetheart):

5*5 = 25

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes that's the area of the base

OpenStudy (sweetheart):

1/2 (25) would u do that or not

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

lateral surface area = 60 square meters area of base = 25 square meters add up the values to get the total surface area

OpenStudy (sweetheart):

2. S.A = L.A +B S.A = ½(20)(6) +25 S.A = ½(120)+ 25 S.A = 60+25= 85

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep 85 is your final answer

OpenStudy (sweetheart):

thank you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no problem
