What would be variables for surface tension.

The independant variable would be those controlled by you. 
Independant: Chemical mixed into water. 


The dependant variable would be the phenomenon that is caused by your changes. 
Dependant: Surface Tension of the water. 


Just for the record salt should have little or no effect on the surface tension, but the detergent will.
