How to make a parallel equation

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

example: if you had y = 3x+5 then the equation of any parallel line is going to be y = 3x+b where b is any number you want (except 5 since it's already listed) so y = 3x+10 is parallel to y = 3x+5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

parallel lines have equal slopes

OpenStudy (rayep12):

so it has to have the same slope

OpenStudy (rayep12):

perpendicular has the opposite slopes

OpenStudy (rayep12):

e.g y=2 is one then y=-1/2 so u would completely flip the slope

OpenStudy (isaiahisraw):

Ohh Okay
