Precalc question?
A 35-centimeter pendulum swings in front of a metric ruler. The bob (weight on the end of the pendulum) is released from a position of 44 centimeters. It swings to the 18-centimeter position before swinging back to 44 centimeters. a) what is the equilibrium position along the ruler? b) what is an approximation for the maximum angular displacement from equilibrium? c) what is the period of the pendulum? d) what is the equation of the horizontal displacement of the pendulum?
I have a, but I can't figure out the rest :/
What did you get for a) ?
I came up with 31 cm
I've got an answer for b., but do we agree on a???
If part c. is wanting the period in seconds this may be of help: https://www.google.com/search?q=pendulum+period&tbm=isch&imgil=oWPzcQj6n1DEuM%253A%253Be0uXg3lL-zVvtM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.calctool.org%25252FCALC%25252Fphys%25252Fnewtonian%25252Fpendulum&source=iu&pf=m&fir=oWPzcQj6n1DEuM%253A%252Ce0uXg3lL-zVvtM%252C_&usg=__Bx07V4nVKJsdmUOcyMyNommPruM%3D&biw=1813&bih=930&ved=0ahUKEwiZnOD8p_3NAhVL04MKHZRjB-UQyjcIfQ&ei=kvOMV5mLBsumjwSUx52oDg#imgrc=oWPzcQj6n1DEuM%3A
Thanks! I actually figured it out :) a) 31 b) 0.37 c) 1.2 secs d) 5.25
Great, and results look reasonable, I did not work out the last one so don't know that one.
