OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

Which expression is equivalent to 5x − 2x + 6 and why? (1 point) 5x + 4, because 5x − (2x − 6) = 5x + 4 13x, because 5x − 2x + 6 = 5x + 8 = 13x 6 + 3x, because (5x − 2x) + 6 = 3x + 6 = 6 + 3x 9x, because 5x − 2x + 6 = 3x + 6 = 9x

pooja195 (pooja195):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

Think it could be D

pooja195 (pooja195):

Why?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

Cause im allowed to think

pooja195 (pooja195):

I'd like to know why you think what you think so that I can help you and guide you. If you aren't going to do that then I can't help.

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

Ok on the real note i think its D doing the math it adds up to 13

pooja195 (pooja195):

D is incorrect. Everything adds up to 13 but we're supposed to combine LIKE TERMS. Terms that ahve the same vairble. In this case 5x and 2x both are like terms. So: 5x-2x=?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

7

pooja195 (pooja195):

5-2

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

3

pooja195 (pooja195):

Great so 3x there is no like term for 6 so we get 3x+6 Which of your answers match up with this?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

3+6= 9

pooja195 (pooja195):

*3x not 3

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

oh so 3x6?

pooja195 (pooja195):

well 6 is positive soooo +6 3x+6 read about like terms here to help you understand whenever you have time :) http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/like-terms.html

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

oh theres 1term

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes

OpenStudy (kl0723):

it's like apples and oranges, they do not belong to the same group, so you basically have 3 apples + 6 oranges

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

which make 9 in total fruits

pooja195 (pooja195):

Apples and oranges are TWO different types of fruit. They are not the same thing.

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

i know but 2 fruits in total

OpenStudy (kl0723):

if you had 3 oranges and 6 oranges then you'd have 9 oranges but since they're different you're allowed to say 3 apples + 6 oranges

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

so...

OpenStudy (kl0723):

I don't like orpples lol

pooja195 (pooja195):

lol xD @AceSpeedFighter what would our answer be?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

9 orpples

pooja195 (pooja195):

Read my link.

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

I did

pooja195 (pooja195):

What are like terms?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

BUt i dont under stand it, yes and i think its B

OpenStudy (kl0723):

why is it B?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

I DONT KNOW ITS CAUSE I THINK I really dont understand this

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

;-;

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

im just a small cat

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

;-;

OpenStudy (kl0723):

numbers that have an (x) belong together, the numbers that don't have an (x) do not combine with those that have one

pooja195 (pooja195):

K let me put it this way are pooja and zepdrix the same people?

pooja195 (pooja195):

@AceSpeedFighter

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

yes

pooja195 (pooja195):

-.-

pooja195 (pooja195):

If you're actually here to learn take it a bit seriously rather than trolling.

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

she said shes pooja

pooja195 (pooja195):

3x and 6 are they the same thing?

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

ok but no shes not

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

so 3*3

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

i mean 3*x

pooja195 (pooja195):

No. 3x (x the vairble)

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

;-; im stuck

pooja195 (pooja195):

We have like terms (the terms with the x are the same) so 5x and 2x would be grouped together Then there's lonely 6 (like me) 6 doesn't like 5 and 2 because x took over 6 wanted to get away from the x so he decided to be alone. WITHOUT the x.

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

k

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

so it would be a lonely 8

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

i mean C

OpenStudy (kl0723):

3x + 6 not 3 (times) 6

pooja195 (pooja195):

Perfect

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

CCCCCCCC

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

6 not 8

pooja195 (pooja195):

Well done finally! :)

OpenStudy (acespeedfighter):

:D

pooja195 (pooja195):

:D

OpenStudy (mrjackdzi):

good job

OpenStudy (anaise):

Pooja is a lonely 6? :(
