Write an exponential function for the graph. use the function to find the value of the boat after 9.5 years
Give me a minute and I'll see what i can do >.<
okay.
I'd like you to look at the graph and determine if it's an exponential growth or an exponential decay.
decay i guess
Yep! Great :) So an exponential decay looks like this \[y = a(1 - r)^x\] where a = initial amount r = decay rate x = number of time intervals passed
okay. so what are the vairables. im guessing a is 3500
Yes, the initial amount would be the point at 0 on the x axis (the time passed) so in that case it would be 3500. x = 10 (years) It looks like it's going down about 1000 at first, then 500, 500, 250, and less as it goes on
@undeadknight26 Can you help determine what the r is?
Rate of decay is slope. Slope is y2 - y1/x2 - x1.
but the rate of decay keeps changing. it gets less and less it doesn't stay the same.
so using 2 points to find the slope won't work because the next set of points won't ahve the same slope.
That's supposed to happen. The proportionality should stay the same, but the numbers changing. :) So, assumably, since it's slope, we can use two consecutive points and find the rate of decay. Is that right Tari? >.< Lol
so what would it be then?
http://openstudy.com/updates/5280275ae4b022369a7cdb0f My friend told me the question was all over the internet, so I just looked and here is what I found xD This might be helpful, more so than I will be.
okay thanks. so help with my other question? in algebra
I can try :)
i had tagged you in it earlier
Oh? Can you tag me again? I get so many notifications I lose track easily :/
