OpenStudy (jadeishere):

Argumentative writing is similar to Persuasive writing. Very similar, actually. To have an argument, you have to have a claim. The claim is what the author is trying to persuade the readers of. Then, there should be a counter-claim and a rebuttal. They acknowledge the other point of view, then say why it's wrong. There should always be reasons why the author feels the way they do, and then evidence for those reasons. Most commonly, in essays, they're 5 paragraphs long. intro paragraph where the introduce their claim and their reasons first body paragraph is the first reason with evidence second body paragraph with second reason with evidence third is counter-claim and rebuttal Then there's the conclusion.
