which part looks like lines and shapes? those are \(x\)'s. you have two of the division rule in the problem. the \(a\) and the \(b\):\[\frac{a^{5}}{a^{3}}\]\[\frac{b^{3}}{b^{2}}\]

okay! ☺ you see in the fraction, a^5 divided by a^3 now if you see anything exponent divided by anything exponent with the same base (in this case, they are both a), then you subtract the exponents. so this would be a^(5-3) which gets you a^2
