Of the four expressions presented here, which two are equivalent? (5 points) Expression I: 3n + 7 + n + 4n Expression II: 7n + 7 Expression III: 15n Expression IV: 8n + 7 I and II II and III III and IV I and IV
Expressions II, III, and IV are simplified. All like terms are combined and there is nothing you can do to simplify them further. Expression I is not simplified. Collect like terms in expression I. What do you get? Remember that like terms are terms that have the same variable. You have 3 terms with the variable n. They can be added together. You cannot add the 7 together because since it does not have a variable, it is not a like term to the other terms. Also, remember that n is the same as 1n.
Example: x + 5x + 9 + 2x = 1x + 5x + 2x + 9 = 8x + 9 Follow this example and do the same to expression I.
