OpenStudy (silverspeedfighter):

The number of pets owned by eight classmates is shown below: 1, 3, 2, 2, 1, 3, 3, 1 Part A: What is the mean of the data? Show your work. (4 points) Part B: Use your answer from Part A to calculate the mean absolute deviation for the data. Show your work. (6 points)

OpenStudy (silverspeedfighter):

Part A: 1+3+2+2+1+3+3+1 which is 16 then since there 8 number you divide 16/8 which is 2, so the mean would be 2.

OpenStudy (silverspeedfighter):

but im not too sure about Part B

OpenStudy (jaylokss):

I believe it's 6

OpenStudy (welshfella):

First you have to subtract 2 from everyone of the values make all of them positive ( modulus of the number) then divide the sum of these by 8

OpenStudy (welshfella):

so ill do the first 2 for you 1-2 = - 1 = 1 3/2 =1 so first 2 are both 1 can you continue?
