4. In addition to samples taken from a body, what other information or evidence could point to poisoning as the cause of death?

OpenStudy (supernova_sonntag):

Maybe through the medical history you could look for complaints of symptoms that are consistent with a poisoning?

OpenStudy (driftracer305):

Lots of stuff by how your body tries to get rid of them through diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, bleeding (all before death obviously). After death, you can check the liver and see its state (discolored, irregularly shaped), etc.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Check for bottles, containers, tablets, capsules around body. Appearance, smell and position of body. - signs of spasm preceeding death. - colour of skin can indicate phosphorus, copper, cyanide, nitrates, chlorates, etc. - bitter almond smell indicates cyanide - injection marks, blisters - examine mouth for possible corrosive material. Examine stains on clothing (possible drugs), vomit, faeces, etc. Ref. for example: http://www.forensicpathologyonline.com/e-book/poisons
