OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Can someone please explain how to solve this?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

@agent0smith

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I'd start by drawing them.

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Is there a method without drawing? Can I just write it?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

If you're clueless, you gotta start somewhere.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I can't even picture what's supposed to be going on.

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

@welshfella

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Excuse my ignorance but what d0es the horizontal line on top of CD and others mean?

OpenStudy (sshayer):

as L is the mid point of CD so CL=LD find x

OpenStudy (sshayer):

CD=2CL

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

The line means line segment

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Oh I see. The way they wrote it originally seemed like they meant they were functions, as in y = It's just segments of a line. |dw:1469737067853:dw| Set them equal since L is the midpoint.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yea

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

But I don't understand how to do that. I'm kind of confused

OpenStudy (mrnood):

|dw:1469737260861:dw| get all the terms with x on one side, and all the other terms on th eother side @quickstudent So far you have made no attempt to contribute to the solution. You now have the explanation of what is needed , and it is a simple equation with x in it solve the eqation as described above for the value of x THEN I will help you with the final step....
