MARC (marc_d):

Find the value of z in the following.. just to double-check my answer.. @ganeshie8

MARC (marc_d):

\[P(Z>z)=0.4460\]

MARC (marc_d):

I got z=0.136 as my answer..

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Are you using a z table ?

MARC (marc_d):

yep

MARC (marc_d):

can we use calculator to check our answer?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

That looks good to me. May I know how you arrived at that ?

MARC (marc_d):

|dw:1469860690422:dw|

MARC (marc_d):

0.4483-0.0024=0.4459

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

What are 0.4483 and 0.0024 ?

MARC (marc_d):

i'm using the z table.. hard to describe it.. xD

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Haha, I know. Just try and tell me in whatever way you can :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

The way I did is a bit different, but I also got the same answer. Wanna see my method ?

MARC (marc_d):

yes,i wanna to see it.. :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I'm using below z-table which gives the probability to the LEFT of a z value. http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~athienit/Tables/Ztable.pdf

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

But we want the z value which corresponds to the probability to the RIGHT.

MARC (marc_d):

yep

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

The total area under the curve is 1. This area also represents the probability.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

The z-value corresponding to the probability of 0.446 to the RIGHT would be same as the z-value corresponding to the probability of 1-0.446 to the LEFT

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

1-0.446 = 0.554

MARC (marc_d):

ok

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Simply look at the ztable I gave earlier for the area 0.554

MARC (marc_d):

ok.. *looking*

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

MARC (marc_d):

a bit confused..

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Notice that the highlighted part 0.5517 is closer to the number we're looking for

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

What are the row and column values for that highlighted number ?

MARC (marc_d):

sorry for the late reply.. is it 0.1 and 0.03 ? @ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yes, so the z value would be 0.13
