OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

In the diagram, the equation of RQ is y=2x-1. If QP is parallel to x-axis and the coordinates of P are (8,4), then find the distance from P to Q

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the equation of the line QP is y = 4 beacuse it is horizontal and pass through y = 4 To find the x coordinate of Q you solve the system of equations y = 2x - 1 y = 4

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

Then would you sub y with 4? So the equation would be 4=2x-1 ?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

x= 2/5

OpenStudy (welshfella):

not quite its the inverse of that 2x = 4 + 1 = 5 x = 5/2 or 2.5

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

oh- sorry my bad. Accidentally wrote it the wrong way..whoops-

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the coordinates of Q are (2.5,8) and of P are (4,8) so now it is easy to find the distance between P and P Just subtract the x-coordinates.

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

1.5?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OpenStudy (welshfella):

sorry i confused you P is (8,4) not (4,8). My typo.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

QP = 8 - 2.5

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

5.5 !

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (welshfella):

another typo Q is (2.5,4) but it didnt make any difference to calculation. 5.5 is correct

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

thankyou !!

OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

Oh- uhm if you're still here and all, is it possible for you to help me with another question?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

i have to go out for 1 hour
