OpenStudy (margarett):

A green light is submerged 1.90 m beneath the surface of a liquid with an index of refraction 1.39. What is the radius of the circle from which light escapes from the liquid into the air above the surface?

OpenStudy (margarett):

inverse sin(1/n)= theta tan(theta) * distance submerged= answer in meters

OpenStudy (osprey):

A question based on refractive index, Snell’s law, total internal reflection, and some geometry; I don’t fully see how a circle fits into this, but, I have found a circle based on the CRITICAL ANGLE. See enclosed presentation. also my website http://perendis.webs.com

OpenStudy (osprey):

I may have worked out what circle the questioner is referring to … a shorter slide show this time.
