OpenStudy (lizzy14296):

What is the quotient when x3 − 5x2 + 2x + 5 is divided by x − 2?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

x^3 -5x^2 +2x +5 / x-2 = x^2 -3x -4 x^3 -2x^2 ------------ 0 -3x^2 +2x -3x^2 +6x ----------- 0 -4x +5 -4x +8 -------- 0 -3 hope helped

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If you (Lizzy) know "synthetic division," I'd suggest you use that method. But long division (used by Jhonny, above) is fine also. Please note that the "quotient" you are to find here is represented by a third polynomial and a remainder. The remainder is -3. What is the third polynomial?
