Imperialism- Pros- Cons- Impacts-
Pros Well Imperialism is positive for nations that practice the concept of imperialism however it is negative for the nations being controlled by these imperialistic nations. Imperial Nations are able to gain various economic and territorial benefits in the world through practicing imperialism and can ultimately become a stronger country with it. There is also a chance that the nation being controlled may achieve some small economic benefits also, however as seen in the events of WW1 where many colonial nations lost economic value due to sending a large amount of supplies to help Europeans. Imperialism also has been proven to increase the literacy rates, rate of modernization, and advancement of technology of nations being controlled. Cons The people of the nations being controlled generally feel as if their freedom and identity have been taken away from them as they are now considered property of another nation. This as a result promoted racism, especially in northern Africa where most African nations were getting completely wrecked by Europeans. Riots ensued, cultures were forgotten etc. Impacts (You can also change points to fit in with pros and cons) One of the largest impacts of imperialism is the fact that it is the main reason why Europeans attempted to colonize the Americas. Spain, Britain, and Portugal all attempted to gain power over each other by conquering the Americas and gaining economic benefit the faster which led to America becoming a great center for economic and military power. In the distant past (I cannot remember which time period) imperialism also led to Portugal dominating the spice trade with Japan which increased Portugal's economic power over other western countries. Another morally negative impact of imperialization were the two Opium wars between Britain and China. As you may have heard in your World History class, britain forced opium into China in order to destroy their nation internally as they refused to trade openly with them. This led towards the two opium wars in which China lost both and had to pay HUGE sums of money to Britain as well as open up trade with Britain. In other words, Great Britain received a large wealth of power from imperialism. I am likely forgetting many cons of imperialism since I keep remembering how my world history would exclaim how the cons of imperialism greatly outweighed the pros.
I messed up in the formatting of the first paragraph, sorry.
