1.) Why is there a difference in "MEDALS RECEIVED" and the total of "MEDALS EARNED" in most of OS profiles?

Medals Received on someone's profile is the total amount of medals you have from all the questions you've answered. The screenshot you put shows the number of medals you have from that specific subject.

So if you want to buy a title or just want to know how many medals you earned in a subject, you would look at "Medals earned in" or just go to the subject and it will tell you like it did in the screenshot.

those medals imply all medals received in that subject total.
