The mean utility bill in one city during the summer was less than $93. Write the null and alternative hypothesis. Please help!
If the utility bill during the summer cost less than $93, therefore we can assume more electricity is being used. honestly not sure on what you're asking for
The claim that mu is less than 93. That claim is made in the alternative hypothesis H1 The null H0 is the status quo. So that would be that the mean mu is either 93 or greater which means we have these hypotheses \[\Large H_0: \mu \ge 93\] \[\Large H_1: \mu < 93\]
Sometimes your book may state the null as having an equal sign only. So it's possible to have \(\Large H_0: \mu = 93\) and the alternative would be what I wrote above
okay i believe the null is usually with just the =
So it sounds like your book/teacher wants this \[\Large H_0: \mu = 93\] \[\Large H_1: \mu < 93\]
Yes, the above is correct. The NULL HYP always involves the = sign.
