What is one way Feudal Japan was different than Feudal Europe? Marriage was used to form alliances in Japan. Families hired warriors for protection in Japan. Japanese estates were centered around a castle. Japanese peasants owned the land they farmed.
I'm thinking that it's D since C is for Feudal Europe, marriages were also for Europe but also possible Japan. I'm not quite sure.
Concerning to the multiple choice statements supplied, the only difference between the two were that peasants owned the land in Feudal Europe. It cannot be statement 1 because pretty much every major society at this time used marriage as leverage. It is very likely that many countries still do this practice actually. It cannot be statement 2 because usually the village elders were able to hire others to protect the villages. If it was more personal, than an individual family would have hired the mercenaries. It was also not uncommon for families in Feudal Europe to 'beg' for assistance upon the owner of their land, however usually the nobles of the land neglected the village's care. The only difference between the hiring of warriors in both regions was that the families in Japan hired samurai who usually followed a code of bushido and were much more reliable. It cannot be statement 3 because I know for a fact that Feudal Europe villages were centered around a castle OR a large city/town, no additional information really needed there. TL;DR Statement 4 is correct. Peasants in Feudal Europe did not own the land in which they farmed in, however they were still required to pay taxes to the owner of the land.
By the way I am not sure if you will be interested or not but I played a game called 'Mount & Blade Warband' which almost perfectly symbolized the times of Feudal Europe. To myself, it was very fun however the game is very long but I think it would be educational for you. The developers are actually making a new one, so it may be better for you to just play the demo for a bit and gain somewhat of an understanding of Feudal Europe.
