At the movie theatre, child admission is $5.10 and adult admission is $9.40 . On Wednesday, three times as many adult tickets as child tickets were sold, for a total sales of $666.00 . How many child tickets were sold that day?

OpenStudy (scooby6363):

First, I just thought of a random number divisible by 10. For practical purposes, lets say I chose 20. I multiplied 20 by 3 since there were three times as many adult tickets sold than there were children tickets. This gives me 60 tickets sold in total for adults. $9.40 * 60 = 564 Then I divided this number by 3 to get the number of children tickets sold. This gives me 20 tickets sold in total for children. $5.10 * 20 = 102 I then added both numbers. $564 + $102 = $666

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

So now I have to divide 102 by $5.10?

OpenStudy (flvskidd):

oh nvm I see where you wrote the answer (20) thanks!!!
