(-2,1/16) (-1,1/4) ( 0,1) (1,4) (2,16) and (-1,3) (0,4) (1,5) (2,6) (3,7) At what value(s) of x are the values of these functions equal

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

The first set of coordinates are an exponential function where f(x) = 4^x and the second equation is a linear equation with a slope of 1.

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

Would there be no value of x where the function values are equal to one another? I plotted the graph and there is no 2 points that are equal and if you draw a line there is only 1 intersection point at (1,4)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

What is the value of first fnction at x = 1 ?

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

I believe it would be 4.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yes, we plot the value of function on `y` axis. `y` coordinate is the value of the function.

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

Ah, okay.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

What is the value of the second function at x = 0 ?

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

4 as well.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

That means both functions have the same value 4.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

That same value occurs when x = 1 for the function and x = 0 for the second function.

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

Oh. I didn't think it was that simple.

OpenStudy (oraclethinktank):

Thank you for the help.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yw :)
