Need help studying polynomials: 43x^3y + 5xy Would be classified as a binomial to the 3rd degree right?

Binomial yes, but I think 4th degree since there is a combined total of 4 powers in the one term.

Actually, it is only the single highest degree that dictates the degree of the whole polynomial. If you had \[x ^{2}+2x+3\] this would only be a second degree polynomial, not a third.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

So if your single highest power is an x raised to the third, then it is a third degree polynomial.
