Anyone fancy a question about calculating electrostatic potential using spherical harmonics ? Question is taken from "Electricity and Magnetism", P59 q 2.18 Bleaney and Bleaney, second edition, OUP (that is, in the UK). My problem is, I think, with the value of one fraction. I say I think, because until I've got the answer in the book, I can't be sure. I'm working on transcribing the question using powerpoint, but I keep falling asleep. So, this is a sort of "begging bowl"/SOS. Anyone interested in relativity ?

OpenStudy (osprey):

If you are, then maybe the enclosed presentation will be of interest. It's animated powerpoint, so being viewed using F5 on the keyboard may help. It's meant to be "simple" ...

tu

OpenStudy (osprey):

Hi irishboy123, what does "tu" mean, other than French for "you" ?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

t = thank u = you as in "and thank you, Brute", Caesar's last words

OpenStudy (osprey):

well, if you're quoting shakespeare's script of Caesar's assassination/murder, I didn't know that he's reported to have thanked Brutus. "Et tu Brute ?" was what I thought that was said, sort of suggesting (from a Tudor perspective of an incident that happened lots of hundreds of years earlier) that Caesar knew that there was an assassination plot against him, but when he found the "cast list" he was disappointed in his "mate" Brutus. All this aside ... I was wondering if anyone had an interest in relativity ... I've been looking at a book by AP French from MIT about relativity, and sort of figure that a lot of the maths stuff is actually on a UK A level school course. So, why not have a go at putting some sort of relativity, be it Galilean (ie low speed), or Einsteinian (ie high speed) for young people. It could be slightly more interesting than endless questions about projectiles, collisions etc And, so I was, and still am, looking for opinions ...

thanks it is nice discussion

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

spesh rel comes and goes here because it's the holidays, there's not much happening but that is still a great idea one thing i would say, most people myself included are slightly reluctant to open attachments. things like Word Ppt Excel superstition maybe

OpenStudy (osprey):

Thanks for the post IrishBoy123. I take it, then, that you've not looked at the attachment in my second post ? I thought that the attachments would cause a problem. The problem is, though, that I can't find a convenient way of posting the stuff on this site. I don't think very much of the "posting system", including the graphics. Very hard work, and very easy to make a mistake. I'd like to be able to progress the idea, but I'm struggling to find ways of doing so. P'raps you might think about "spreading the word" ... ? http://perendis.webs.com
