I have to write a short story about an incident in the life of Queen Elizabeth 1. Any recommendations?
1) Have the life of Queen Elizabeth I down pat. 2) Pick a time in her life you want to write about. 3) Write on a separate piece of paper the most important points. 4) For each point, have at least 2 sentences of fiction while sticking to the facts. This is hard! 5) Buy Pringles. 6) Eat and reread your story to see what you think! I'm about to give you an example right now...
Real Story: "George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Washington served as a general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies during the American Revolution, and later became the first president of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797."
My rewrite: George Washington looked over the smooth green grasses of Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was born on Februrary 22, 1732. Ever since he was a little boy, he liked to play games of War, and now look where he was now! He was not only a general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies in his past during the great and brutal American Revolution, but the highest of high positions. He was the first president of the United States. He felt as if he had a lot of responsibility, being the president. He not only had to lead his people, but he had to create laws that would impact his country forever. And, to add on to his responsibility, he was going to be the example of what a president should be. At this, George had to take a deep breath and focus on the beautiful nature around him before going to work again. -RiverShinesDragon
Queen Elizabeth 1 had a quite tumultuous life, there's plenty you could talk about. Like her mother was charged with treason and beheaded whereas Elizabeth was bastardised when she was really young, her father had six wives and he was a bit nuts I think plus he had gotten a rather bad injury in his leg while he was out hunting and it pained him a lot for the rest of his life, then when he died she had to live with her last stepmother and her husband, her older sister was not very fond of her according to several rumours but they had a civil relationship in public [Queen Mary, the older step-sister, actually did a lot of things Elizabeth did not approve of to reach the throne and during her reign - like commanding the killings of a lot of Protestants because she was Catholic], she never got married but there were a lot of prospective grooms. You could pick any of these major points in her life and build a story around it to portray her in the situation, and her feelings about it maybe? I would suggest you choose one and read as much as you can find on it to get the facts and then write about it.
If you need some inspiration on how to write for that period, maybe try reading some Philippa Gregory if you have time because she has written a few novels on the Lancasters, Yorks, Tudors and other British royal families of that time and she's really good!
