OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

So, as TSO has stated in this section that OS has plenty of dead subjects... http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/57aca7c9e4b05bb091d84c87 MY QUESTION IS: Why don't we get rid of the dead subjects? @BrainlyOfficial

pooja195 (pooja195):

I am not brainly official however just because subjects are dead does not mean they should be deleted. If math was dead would it be deleted? No. Also, they have other priorities deleting subjects is currently not one of them :/

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

"Those "dead" sections are what's left of collaborations between the schools (hippocampus) and openstudy. The group widget was displayed on the course page but it's very outdated so they should entirely remove such groups." ~ @thomaster From https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RkMztccYBI23NHqIjQ0ylAb4HmgjClAv9IPGbTc093w/edit#gid=0 In response to my suggestion of getting rid of the dead subjects. :) Row #117

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

But as Pooja stated, if we get rid of dead subjects, what happens to the questions asked in them? Besides, no one asks questions in there and that's why it's dead. And no one helps there too. As Parth said when we changed something on the site "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Well obviously math isn't deleted because people need SO much help and I doubt it'll ever be deleted. ON THE OTHER HAND, we literally have people that don't even post posts or questions anymore in particular sections.

pooja195 (pooja195):

You never know when you will need a subject.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

It doesn't matter. Questions can go blank and deleted as well along with the deletion of the subjects. I'm not talking specifically about one subject. There's MORE THAN ONE AS YOU CAN SEE I do know. I mean literally if you look at this way: If it's dead would you still keep it? If the person is dead, are you gonna keep it? OBVIOUSLY NOT

pooja195 (pooja195):

Sadly, we are not talking about dead people. Those subjects are there for a reason. Let them be they aren't in your way so don't worry about them.

OpenStudy (photon336):

Well, it depends on how long the subjects have been inactive for. if we're talking about a span of weeks or days of course not, i guess anything more than a year would be more reasonable. Maybe there should be some kind question search bar where we could look for questions within OS, but of course I've heard that's not viable due to issues with people cheating. Well, I guess if that's the case then we would only have math, the natural sciences, and history and OS feedback.

OpenStudy (photon336):

I guess you could just chose not to study that particular subject and it won't come up on your list above "find more subjects"

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Im more than positive it has been over a year.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

It's always had plenty of dead subjects.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Right now, I think we should worry more about the dead users.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Merge all of the questions into a 'Miscellaneous' subject, throw on a search bar, make it to where no one can ask questions there, delete dead subject, ta-dah

umerlodhi (umerlodhi):

8 subjects pls

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

I really think that dead subjects shouldn't even show up on the search bar when searching for a subject. I think really, to be honest, we should get rid of what's not needed and make OS better and I think that would help out with the lag as well.

alones (alones):

Or probably some of them are dead, since it's still summer..

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

@AloneS there are literally some that aren't even being used during school time as well

sammixboo (sammixboo):

The Reddit section can go, LOL

sammixboo (sammixboo):

It's just spam subject now

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Exactly. Soon it'll be just a puddle of not needed subject which I'm positive will be in the way of causing lag for OS users.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I agree we don't want unnecessary/dead groups showing up when selecting groups. Its a poor design if users have to think a lot for doing simple tasks on the site. Just for fun imagine what would happen to Google if it replaced its interface by something with more options like the second pic below ;) |dw:1471100521660:dw| |dw:1471100531307:dw|

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Can we at least do that or take deleting into consideration? @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (wit):

@TheSmartOne Parth actually said "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." http://openstudy.com/users/parthkohli#/updates/555b6c8ae4b03ba94b118fe7 You added an "n" after broke.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Hippo campus is an important part of OS culture. Long live the hippos.

OpenStudy (thewafflebro):

@BrainlyOfficial

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

He never responds bro.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

I do not know if the site still updates itself. It's been a ling time and if the Brainly team was really interested in making changes, it wouldn't have delayed till now. Anyways my concern too is about the questions that will get deleted. Also an extra subject means an extra path to reach Openstudy. 'Engineering' group is not that active but it can still help many Engineers like me reach this site through Google. Happy learning :)

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

mORE DEAD SUBJECTS BETTER LIFE IS

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Even though we have inactive subjects, we don't need to get rid of them. However, renaming them would be appropriate. Examples: UCA photography would hide the subject from a lot of people looking for photography. Same for the MIT subjects. The historical importance of these names may be underlined in a different way, or elsewhere. Now I find "geometry" and "Pre-algebra" extraneous, even though they are popular subjects, most would have asked those questions under "math". Why "Introduction to Sociology"? and not simply "sociology"? "Ground Water" would be under "engineering" or "Earth Sciences", but if it's already there, we could keep it. I wish "Change, Education, Learning and Technology" would not put "change" as the first word. Also, by having shorter titles, we'd see the whole topic on the menu. Right-now we have ten items that cannot display the title of the whole topic! The solution I like best, in the medium term, is to have all topics shown in the drop-down menu without scrolling, using smaller characters, or with two columns. The latter might present a little challenge to the developers since most canned drop-down menus allow only one column.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

Бог поможет сыновья мои :)

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Alex, вы меня извените но я не мужчина.

alones (alones):

DEAD x'D

OpenStudy (thewafflebro):

there our history leave them plz

OpenStudy (rayep12):

i was dead now i am alive

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

LOL Ray hahha..

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

Что даже XD

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

What? As a final statement, could we really take this into consideration??

jabez177 (jabez177):

So like have subjects like there could be just one, Science. Under science we can put Biology, Chemistry, Earth science, Health science. Basically anything that is related to science? That sounds like a good idea to me. :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

That wasn't what the suggestion was... .-.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

No, that wasn'y my plan, Jabez. Although that is a good idea. My suggestion was.. TAKE OUT ALL THE DEAD subjects... Possible we'll have a faster operating site and it might reduce the lag problems>?

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Well if a dead subject was deleted... it would just give a bigger excuse for users to spam subjects with questions that dont go there. Also OS has always had dead subjects, just ever since Brainly took over, they have gotten more dead.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

the dead subjects being deleted would help very little... Deleting some of the 12 million+ questions asked in mathematics that are still open on the other hand...

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

or at least closing, i imagine closing might also help... XD
