Segment MN and segment NR combine to form segment MR By the segment addition postulate, we know that MN+NR = MR

MN = 2.5x NR = x MR = 5x-3

So, MN+NR = MR turns into 2.5x+x = 5x-3 solve for x. Then use that value of x to calculate MN = 2.5x
