OpenStudy (katecc379):

Which of the following is an example of a complex sentence? I want to go to sleep, but the little puppy wants to go outside. Some people use social media every single day of their lives. Because the monster jumped up without warning, the girl screamed. He and his friends went to the store, and she hung out at home.

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

So normally a complex sentence would be when two or more sentences can be combined with a subordinating conjunction that explains the relationship between each idea. Some common subordinating conjunctions would be as, because, if or since. So do you think you could guess which one would be a complex sentence?

OpenStudy (katecc379):

a?

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

I was leaning more towards C, an example would be "Because my coffee was too cold, I heated it in the microwave." The difference is that there is an independent clause at the end

OpenStudy (katecc379):

gotcha! could you help with one more?

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

Sure I can try

OpenStudy (katecc379):

He is an amazing cook, makes great paintings, and he is a loyal friend. this needs to be revised to show parallel structure

OpenStudy (katecc379):

would it be like Hes an amazing cook, painter, and friend. ?

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

Ok so to have a parallel structure you have to have the same pattern of words... and example could be Sam likes cooking, cleaning, and fishing. Because they all end in -ing

OpenStudy (katecc379):

okay look at what i put

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

Yeah I think that would be correct

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

wait actually

OpenStudy (katecc379):

i already submitted it oh well

OpenStudy (katecc379):

John D. White—the school teacher—now, with his long beech switch always in his hand. It was not always the same one, either. Switches were brought in bundles, from a beech wood near the school house, by the boys for whose benefit they were intended. to which sense would this apply to, seeing feeling hearing or tasting

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

oh ok but i think it was right

OpenStudy (katecc379):

me too

OpenStudy (katecc379):

could you help with that one

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

sure let me read it

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

Do you have a guess?

OpenStudy (katecc379):

i dont tbh i dont understand

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

I think its asking like when you read that segment what is sense is the author trying to get you to feel?

OpenStudy (katecc379):

so maybe seeing

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

In that case I would take out tasting and hearing

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

yeah I agree

OpenStudy (katecc379):

what does explicit mean in english

OpenStudy (katecc379):

not like the meaning of the word but when its asking you to find the authors use of explicit

OpenStudy (katecc379):

clearly stated ?

OpenStudy (sasabina123):

What does the question say exactly?

OpenStudy (sasabina123):
