OpenStudy (igster1112):

The volume of a nominal 4×8×2½ inch brick is ___ inches. A) 80 cubic B) 8 cubic C) 800 square D) 80 square

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Multiply it 4 * 8 * 2.5 = ?

OpenStudy (igster1112):

I got 80 but would it be cubic or square?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Basically, the length, width and height all have inches to it 4 inches * 8 inches * 2.5 inches and inches * inches = inches^2 or square inches so what would inches * inches * inches = ?

OpenStudy (igster1112):

I thought it would be cubic because it's 3 numbers.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

yes, and because each number has an inch to it and inch * inche * inch = inch^3 which is nothing but cubic inches

OpenStudy (igster1112):

Ok thank you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

'cubic' is correct. You can think of the volume re-arranged and broken up into 80 cubes all of the same dimension (each is 1 inch by 1 inch by 1 inch)

OpenStudy (igster1112):

Ok thanks
