Help..?

OpenStudy (hxkage):

In the given figure of triangle PQR, angle PMN = angle R. Prove that triangle PQR ~ PMN. Also find the value of x.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

< PNM is a right angle?

OpenStudy (hxkage):

It's not said @welshfella

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OK I was just checking

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Oh

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Any idea on how to solve tho? ;-;

OpenStudy (welshfella):

We need to prove that 2 corresponding angles in triangles PQR and PNM are congruent .

OpenStudy (welshfella):

~ means similar right? We don't use that symbol in the UK.

OpenStudy (hxkage):

U got it, fella ;)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OK so we have <PMN = < R (Given) and <NPM = <QPR ( this angle is common to both triangles) Therefore triangle PQR ~ PMN

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Then we take the ratio of the sides?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I think thats by SSS in the US? because if 2 corresponding angle are equal then 3rd angles must be equal too.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Yes - to find x.

OpenStudy (hxkage):

SSS is when we use 3 sides to prove similarity. AA is when we use 2 angles. Here, we use AA. :)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OH OK

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Oh and thanks a lot! :D

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yw

OpenStudy (hxkage):

I got x = 6 cm but in the answer key, the answer is 2.4 cm @welshfella
