OpenStudy (prominer10000):

What is the value of this expression? 6^{-7} x 6^{4} Answer choices: A. 6^{-3} B. 6^{-11} C. 6^{-28} D. 6^{11}

OpenStudy (evoker):

\[a^b*a^c=a^{b+c}\]

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

So, sorry, I'm confused. What exactly do I need to do? What I do know is that 6^4 = 1296. And then 6^-7 = 279936. But I don't think that this is what I'm supposed to do.

OpenStudy (evoker):

No you need to add the powers, since they have the same base.

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

So it would be -7 + 4?

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

Would it be 6^-3? (A?) Because if I do -7 + 4, that equals -3. And then I'd assume the base would stay the same.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

correct

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

Ok, thanks! @welshfella & @Evoker :)
