So we were having a discussion in class today and my teacher said that if we were in like a desert or something and haven't eaten for 10 days and one day we came across food and we ate it, we would instantly die. Why is that?

Ever had a cramp if you ate too fast, or even, maybe, threw up because your body couldn’t hold what went down? Now multiply it by 20 +. FATALITY! K.O! … Well, why is that? Here is simply my answer: When your body has been introduced to a stage of hunger, it prepares itself to stretch its food source and it already has and may slow down its digestion. (So you, can, you know, survive.) It may even start breaking down the fat you stored to keep it going. By then, your body has adapted and told its self, “Ok, LISTEN YOU! You are to take small amounts of food! Nothing more! Got it! Its all that she/he could provide!” (And that’s how those actors on TV get really, really skinny. You know, those people who are poor, or was stranded? Yeah, their bodies are basically eating its own fat to stay alive!) So, the body already had it dealt with. So, then you decide to eat large amounts. What will the body do? It wouldn’t know how to act or what to do! Or take too much in, which is NEVER good. Introducement to food after ‘fasting’ or a period without solids, IS like your teacher said, fatal. You don’t automatically digest on a regular basics. Your body will not adjust that quickly, and it will potentially overwhelm your system. That may lead to fatal illness, or serious sickness. You can start getting too much proteins/ over nourishment, which is bad. Ever heard of the phrase, “too much isn’t good for you?” Ha, this takes it to a new level! So, if you are ever put into that situation: The best way to go is, slowly introduce yourself to small type of courses, and work your way up. Let your body adapt back. Say for instance, drink shakes and fruit shakes, eat small fruits, then later big fruits, starches, (potatoes, rice, etc.) etc, etc. At least, that is what I think of this certain type predicament. - @MissSmartiez
